Faults on aircraft are rectified by replacing appropriate components.
Avionics engineer checks the operation of the affected system and if satisfied, certifies system as serviceable.
Removed ones are forwarded to electronics workshops where repairs and testing are carried out by highly trained specialists.

Rob is correct. Aircraft mechanics have either an airframe rating, a powerplant rating, or usually, both, and they are called A&P mechanics. They can repair or replace any component on the aircraft except they can’t work on the avionics system. They can only remove and replace components of it and work on the aircraft wiring.

An avionics technician usually has at least a mechanic’s license with airframe rating, but it’s not required as long as a licensed mechanic removes and installs the components.
